Congress Leader Tajinder Singh Bittu Resigns, Likely to Join BJP

In a significant development, Tajinder Singh Bittu, a prominent figure in the Congress party and a close aide to leader Priyanka Gandhi, tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the grand-old party. Bittu also stepped down from his role as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary in-charge of Himachal Pradesh. His resignation was submitted to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, marking the end of his 35-year association with the party.

In his resignation letter, Bittu expressed his decision with a heavy heart, stating, “I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress and from my post as AICC secretary Co-Incharge of Himachal Pradesh, effective immediately.” The letter was shared on his Facebook page, where Bittu also conveyed his emotions about parting ways with the Congress after such a long and dedicated tenure.

Reports suggest that Tajinder Singh Bittu is poised to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) shortly after resigning from the Congress. His decision comes on the heels of India’s commencement of voting for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, with the first phase encompassing 102 constituencies across 21 states and union territories. While the Election Commission of India (ECI) noted that the initial polling phase was largely peaceful, isolated incidents of violence were reported in certain regions of West Bengal and Manipur.

The first phase of voting marked the beginning of a comprehensive electoral process, with the Lok Sabha polls scheduled to unfold in seven phases until June 1. The outcomes of these elections, involving the selection of 543 members for the 18th Lok Sabha, are eagerly anticipated and will be officially announced on June 4. Tajinder Singh Bittu’s decision to part ways with the Congress and potentially join the BJP adds a significant layer of intrigue and political dynamics to the ongoing electoral landscape.
